About the Institute
The TamilNadu Institute of Labour Studies was established in the year 1973 by the Government of Tamil Nadu and was functioning as a Government Department. Subsequently, it was registered as a Society under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 on 8.10.1987 and started functioning as an autonomous body with effect from 1.4.1988.
The affairs of the Institute is administered by the Governing Committee under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Minister for Labour Welfare & Skill Development Department. The Secretary to Government, Labour Welfare & Skill Development Department is the Vice-Chairman. The Government of Tamil Nadu provides annual Grants-in-aid for the administration of the Institute .
This institute focuses on Academic education, Research studies, Training Programmes in Labour Laws and Industrial Relations. Seminars are also conducted to enhance the skills and knowledge of Human Resource Personnel in Industries.
The main objectives of this institute are to:
- 1 Conduct regular Under Graduate (B.A.), Post Graduate (M.A ) and Ph.D., programmes in Labour Management affiliated with the University of Madras.
- 2 Conduct One year part time evening programme Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Administration (PGDLA ) and One year week- end programme Diploma in Labour Laws with Adminstrative Law (DLL & AL )
- 3 Organise training programmes, seminars and capacity-building activities for Human Resource Personnel in Industries, Trade Union representatives, Officers of the Labour Department and Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health.
- 4 Co-operate and Collaborate with educational and other institutions both in India and abroad through joint programmes .
